Grupo Uno Headquarters

Managua, Nicaragua

Located on an important intersection in the new business center of the city, the design for the headquarters for Banco Uno in Managua is a five story 40,000 s.f. building which comprises a bank and a prestigious office complex. The building responds to the frontage on the main highway with a long sliding forms of shear glass which evoke the speed of the passing automobiles. A lower two story piece slides away from the main office slab to create the main entrance, which leads to a double height banking hall. The eastern façade is all glass and takes advantage of views of the city and Lake Managua. In contrast, the western façade has smaller discrete openings with projecting aluminum blades that shield the offices from the afternoon tropical sun. Grupo Uno was acquired by Citibank in 2008. This project was a joint venture with arquitect Camilo Rosales.
